Unit V, USC start strong in CCO

The athletes from Unit V and University of San Carlos- Basic Education (USC-BED) made a big splash in the swimming competitio­n of the 28 th Ce bu City Olympics held yesterday at the Cebu City Sports Center.

Unit V tankers delivered seven gold, six silver and two bronze medals in the first day to rule the elementary division.

Unit V's Quintin Sabalande contribute­d two gold medals fromtheboy­s200-meterfrees­tyle and 50m butterfly while Mika Ella Carredo (200m freestyle) and Chelsy Espinosa (100m backstroke) also supplied one gold apiece. The girls also earned twog olds via the 200 mand400m medley relay while the boys also topped their division in the 400m medley relay to win the gold.

Unit VIII ended Day 1 with 5-1-6, UC got 3-1-1 while USC has 2-4-4.

The USC-BED tankers, meanwhile, carted the most gold in the secondary level with eight gold and an additional of four silver and two bronze medals.

USC-BED's Gil Anton Talisaysay scooped two golds from the 200m butterfly and 200m individual medley. Aaliyah Maria Biagan (200m backstroke) and Juan Alberto Biagan (100m freestyle) took home one gold each from topping their respective events while the USC Girls and Boys Team got four golds for sweeping the 200m and 400m medley relay events.

UC follows at second place with 4-8-6 succeeded by Unit VI with 3-1-5 while Unit VIII has 1-3-1.

In the athletics event, the Cebu Institute of Technology­University athletes garnered seven medals in the elementary division with three golds courtesy of LorenzAlbe­rto Enriquez (shot put) and Adrian Charls Pila (100m and 400m hurdle) atop of two silver and two bronze.

Followed by Unit IV with 2-1-2 (gold-silver-bronze), Unit I with 1-3-1, Unit VIII with 1-1-1, USC with one silver and bronze, Abellana National School with one gold and Unit II with one bronze. —
