Unit V, USC stay hot in City Olympics

Unit V and University of San Carlos- Basic Education (USC-BED) tankers continued their medal haul in the pool in Day 2 of the 28th Cebu City Olympics yesterday at the Cebu City Sports Center.

In the final day of the swimming event, Unit V swimmers garnered 16 gold, 10 silver and seven bronze medals to top the elementary division.

Unit VIII finished at second place with 7-3-7 gold-silver bronze followed by University of Cebu (53-2) and USC-BED (3-6-8).

The gold medalists for Unit V in the final day were Quintin Sabalande (400m freestyle/50m backstroke), Mika Ella Carredo (400m freestyle), Chelsy Espinosa (50m backstroke), James Aaron Pardiñas (50m freestyle), Kirk Alezandre Galo (100m backstroke), while their girls and boys squad also won the 200m freestyle and 400m freestyle relay actions.

In the secondary level, USCBED kept its dominance after harvesting 4 gold, two silver and six bronze medals.

Gil Anton Talisaysay (800m freestyle/100m butterfly), Juan Alberto Biagan (200m freestyle) and Maria Aaliyah Biagan (100m breaststro­ke) contribute­d the team's gold medals in the final day.

UC settled for second with 1013-9 medal tally, while Unit VI (63-9) and Unit VIII (2-6-1) wound up third and fourth place, respective­ly.

In athletics, Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) athletes got two gold medals courtesy of Angelo Ilano in discuss throw and Adrian Charls Pila in the 110m hurdle.

Unit VIII's Shara Nobrel Tomarong (discuss throw) and Jonseen Tapia (long jump) also top respective events while USC's Laurence Yvorry Garcia bag the gold in the 800m girls event while her teammate Clarysse Gotera ruled the 200m event.

Tony Francisco Cosgrave of Unit V clinched the 800m title while Unit IV's Niño Jay Escarro top the 200m category and teammate Hazel Jude Cutillar got the gold in the 100m hurdle.

In the secondary division, Shalila Ferneli Santiago (discuss throw), Dominic Johlio Woodard(discuss throw), Mary Joy Loberanis (800m) and Louraine Yvonne Garcia (100m hurdle) top their respective events to contribute to the gold medal haul of USC-BED

Genesis Gabayan of Unit VIII won the gold in boys long jump.

UC's Martchan Torregosa (800m), Josie Inemedo of UC (200m), Alexander Alvarez (200m) were also successful after topping their respective events
