City Council: Inspect Barangay Sapangdaku
The Cebu City Council has requested the Department of Engineering and Public Works (DEPW) and Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CCDRRMO) to conduct an immediate inspection and assess the vulnerability of the drainage and pathways located at Sitio Lupa, Barangay Sapangdaku.
This, after the City Council approved the resolution Councilor Jerry Guardo, chairman on infrastructure, has sponsored last Tuesday.
Guardo drafted the resolution after he received a letter from Lupa Hills Homeowners Association President Delfin Reyes asking help for the repair of the drainage and pathways which is considered a “danger zone.”
The drainage and pathways were dilapidated due to the floods during the rainy season.
"Yes, flood prone area gyud. Nangaguba na ila pathways and drainage culvert pag kusog sa baha," he told The FREEMAN.
Guardo added the concern of the residents entails an imminent danger considering that there are reported landslides in the area.
“The location is considered as danger zone area. This is because of its terrain that is mountainous and hilly. There were occurrences that some portions already have landslides,” read a portion of the letter dated October 29, 2018.
The letter further details that, during rainy days, slipping or tripping accidents have been recorded since the pathways were washed out.
The said pathways are the access of the residents, especially among children going to school.
“Due to the damaged drainage in the area, the pathways are always wet and slippery which is prone to accidents,” the letter further read.
In order to prevent further incident to occur, Reyes is asking the help of the city government for the repair of the drainage and pathways.
With this, the city council has authorized DEPW to prepare program of works and estimates (POWE) to fix the dilapidated pathways.
Guardo said DEPW and CCDRRMO are expected to conduct inspection within this month. — Odessa O.
