- Lemuel P. Maglinte

Cebuano Phil Rizon and Sharr Llera dominated their respective divisions in the inaugural Queen City SUB ONLY, a submission grappling tournament, the other night at the Albur's Pizza Burger Grill in Barangay Kasambagan, Cebu City.

Rizon of Pato Studio BJJ topped the lightweight division after submitting Jay Uy of Atos Philippines-Bohol with a nasty ankle lock in the fourth minute mark of the match. Before his finals match with Uy, Rizon dispatched Paulo Arcenas of Cagayan De Oro in the first round, followed with a victory over Jesse Fama of Bacolod in the semis.

Llera, for his part, had an easy win in the finals after his teammate Jam Ramirez decided to concede, but before the light featherweight finals, Llera had two exciting victories against Joemar Bayang of Legacy Gym Boracay and Carlo Siguan of Pato Studio.

Llera upended Bayang via overtime, while he had a quick win over Siguan via heel hook in the semis.

Organized by Mark Lawrence Bautista, a jiujitsu practitioner himself, the tournament was gathered the top grapplers from Visayas and Mindanao.

"My main goal is to promote Jiu-Jitsu not only here in Cebu but the whole Philippines while offering a competition format that would motivate competitors and teams to train no gi, submission only jiujitsu," said Bautista. "My vision is to make Queen City SUB ONLY a yearly event and make it a platform for jiujiteiros and jiujiteiras to showcase their skills and talent."
