USC lady spikers draw first blood

The University of San Carlos lady spikers took one step closer to the title after winning Game 1 of their best-of-three finals series against University of San Jose-Recoletos in the 18th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) women's volleyball tournament yesterday at the University of Southern Philippine­s gym.

USC positioned themselves fittingly in the first set to claim the win, 25-22, but USJ-R bounced back in the second frame and upended the Lady Warriors, 25-14 .

USC belles didnt let go of the the momentum as they clinched the final set, 25-18,25-19.

Even with the victory, USC head coah Grace Antigua said that they still have a lot of things to work on to secure the title.

"We still have to work on our first touch.At least we have already improved on our service about 80 to 90 percent," said Antigua.

Meanwhile, in the men's division finals, Southweste­rn University -Phinma outlasted University of the Visayas, 26-24, 26-24, 25-21 to take Game 1.

In the battle for third, Cebu Institute of Technology­University and University of Southern Philippine­s Foundation lady spikers defeated their respective opponent to claim the third place honor.

CIT-U defeated USJ-R in the men's division, 29-27, 2725, 25-22, while USPF trounced SWU, 25-20, 25-18,25-21. —
