Vengeance fuels hard-pounding action in ‘Cold Pursuit’

Blood in the snow will flow in Liam Neeson’s latest thrilling action film “Cold Pursuit” where he plays Nels Coxman, a snowplough driver in Kehoe, a 10-degrees and counting glitzy ski resort in the Rocky Mountains.

Liam Neeson, known for the highly successful “Taken” franchise, is no stranger to reinventio­n. But even by his standards, “Cold Pursuit” represents a surprising gear-shift into wicked new territory.

The movie sets the local police, who are not used to much happening, in action when the son of unassuming town snowplough driver, Nels Coxman is murdered at the order of Viking (Tom Bateman), a flamboyant drug lord. True to its commitment to delivering the most credible coverage of the upcoming May polls, GMA News and Public Affairs mounts “Debate 2019: The GMA Senatorial Face-Off” this Saturday, Feb. 9 at 9:50 p.m.

This senatorial debate will be moderated by GMA News pillar Vicky Morales and senior news anchor Pia Arcangel. Esteemed GMA News pillars Jessica Soho, Arnold Clavio, Howie Severino and Mel Tiangco join the debate as panel members.

The debate will give voters a chance to get to know the candidates running for 12 coveted seats in the Philippine Senate. “Debate 2019: The GMA Senatorial FaceOff” will tackle various topics ranging from the candidate’s track record to his/her stand on various national and internatio­nal issues. Questions to test each candidate’s credibilit­y and competence are also included.

The first round will see senatorial bets under the scrutiny of the country’s most respected broadcast journalist­s. In this round, each candidate must answer a main question from their pre-selected interrogat­or. Soho, Clavio, Severino and Tiangco will ask the main questions, while was “Taken.” But while that movie’s plot, of a father out for revenge against the men who have put his offspring in danger, may sound like it shares some DNA with that of “Cold Pursuit,” the latter sees him deliver a performanc­e unlike any in his already storied career.

“On the one level, ‘Cold Pursuit’ is a great, classic revenge thriller,” says Neeson. “But what was really appealing to me was the dark undercurre­nt of humor that runs through it.”

Or, as his director, Hans Petter Moland puts it: “Basically, this is Liam Neeson like you’ve never seen him before. It’s a very special, unique performanc­e.”

Catch “Cold Pursuit” when it opens in cinemas nationwide on Wednesday, Feb. 13, from Axinite Digicinema. other candidates have the opportunit­y to ask their fellow candidate a followup question.

In the second round, candidates with opposing views shall debate on key national issues. In this round, senatorial hopefuls will argue for or against a particular issue, and will be paired with another candidate who has an opposing view. Should the Philippine­s legalize divorce? Should term limits be removed? These are just some of the questions that are up for debate.

“Debate 2019: The GMA Senatorial FaceOff” aims to help citizens make an informed choice in the upcoming elections. Tonight, voters will get the opportunit­y to know the senatorial aspirants better and find out where each candidate stands on the most pressing issues.
