The Cebu Provincial Sports Commission (CPSC) will once again hold a training for coaches of all participating teams in the 2019 Cebu Governor’s Cup Inter-Cities and Municipalities Under 21 Developmental Basketball Tournament slated on February 18-20 at the Sisters of Mary School-Boystown in Tungkop, Minglanilla.

CPSC Executive Director Atty. Ramil P. Abing said the event is part of their mandatory program for the LGUs (local government units) taking part in their provincewide tilt that aims to further polish the skills of potential cagers and at the same time discover new hardcourt talents in this side of the country.

“Through this training of coaches, we desire to improve their knowledge in coaching so they can impart it to the players and the players can learn something from the tournament,” said Abing.

The three-day undertaking will be spearheaded by basketball legend Pido Jarencio, the current head coach of NorthPort Batang Pier in the PBA.

Twice an All-Star and a two-time PBA champion during his prime, Jarencio is also one of the brains behind the Community Basketball Association (CBA), a newly-formed communitybased, fiesta-style league that aims to provide more opportunities for aspiring players in the countryside to showcase their wares.

Participated in by 41 LGUs that are bracketed per congressional district, the 3rd Governor’s Cup is set to take off on March 9. The Talisay Aquastars are the defending champions.
