Dealing with the Joker

-

This isn't a piece about some relationship where one is the joker, no. This takes us back to the life of Batman's nemesis who was a clown in real life and is more known as the Joker. He is seen in many portrayals as a lunatic, crazy, sadistic man who loves to see things and people go down. His fight with Batman goes beyond the root of the story that almost all movies, cartoons, and comics point to him.

But the story is more than his personality at present, but it is why he came to be as he is. He lived a messed-up life, grew up messed up as well, and wanted to get back at everybody who hurt him. We can all be like the Joker, but then we wouldn't be living awesome lives today. It is so easy to wallow in the past and not move forward to a new life.

Now to dissect this part of his story, we take a step back at why most people who lived a childhood like Joker grow up to be unsuccessful. The reason behind this is that there are only a few people who support them and talk to them about what they are going through. I found this to be very real with myself when I experienced my own family problem. What made me sane was the people around me who talked sense into me.

The issue of mental health is very important to discuss and we must not just shelf this kind of illness. There is still the taboo of dealing with people who experience mental trauma and pain, but the reality is we should be there all the time when we know someone is going through the motions. Do we ever wonder why suicide cases continue to rise? It's because of the disconnect that we feel because of the strong presence of social media.

I noticed this disconnect in our dining tables. Instead of talking to each other to stir conversations, we all busy looking at our phones, which is a complete waste of time. I feel completely insulted when I sit at a table with people who do nothing but scroll. There is so much life than checking on one each other over a meal or coffee. These are the rare moments when I miss with friends who are now abroad, and also my dysfunctional family.

Face it, we all come from backgrounds that are not to be proud of but we can always turn the story around. It all comes with the right response, right attitude and a heart of gratitude. Don't mess with the Joker inside you, telling you to be full in pity. Be cheerful, be happy, and don't be ashamed to share. Who knows whatever you are going through is what will make you a better person.
