Only six local government units (LGUs) in Central Visayas are set to receive the 2019 Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) recognition from the Department of the Interior and Local Government.

The awardees are the municipality of Talibon, Bohol; the municipality of Tubigon, Bohol; the municipality of Samboan, Cebu; the municipality of Sogod, Cebu; the municipality of San Remigio, Cebu; and Lapu-Lapu City.

The six LGUs will be given an SGLG marker and a Performance Challenge Fund for their outstanding performance across all areas of the “all-in” assessment system that was conducted.

As noted by the DILG, in order to get the prestigious seal, an LGU has to pass all seven governance areas; financial administration, disaster preparedness, social protection, peace and order, business friendliness and competitiveness, environmental management, and tourism and culture and the arts.

For this year 380 LGUs nationwide will receive the SGLG.

The SGLG is a national recognition given to an LGU that shows good governance practices and worthy performance in public service.

The LGUs are assessed through document inspection, on-site visits, and interviews as to whether or not they have fulfilled the given criteria or measures as set by the DILG. The awarding of the SGLG is set for November 5 this year in the National Capital Region.

There are twice the number of SGLG awardees from Region 7 this year compared to last year. In 2018 only Sogod, San Remigio, and Loboc town in Bohol won the award.
