Apoliceman ended up shooting a construction worker who was allegedly running amok and threatening his father and sister with a gun in Sitio Kamaisan, Barangay Tolo-Tolo, Consolacion, Cebu on Tuesday night.

Jaykee Semblante Nique, 28, died on the spot after he was shot by Police Staff Sargent Julios Latac, who responded to the area.

Latac was trying to pacify Nique when he threatened his father and sister.

According to Police Major Verniño Nasorale, Consolacion Police Station chief, the suspect was a known drug user in the community and was under the influence of alcohol when the incident happened.

Initial investigation showed that it was not the first time that the suspect reportedly ran amok. He was also arrested before for possession of illegal drugs.

“Mga tanod nato suki na na silag responde sa ilaha, manggukod og sundang...naay mga nadunggaban (Our tanods usually respond to their house. The suspect would often brandish a bolo. Someone got wounded on one occasion),” Nasorale said.

“Iyang papa mismo, hands up na na niya (surrendered). It was very ironic nga ang papa mismo miingon nalang nga ‘Maayo nalang to, sir, mao to ang nahitabo,’” Nasorale said, recalling the interview with the suspect’s father.

The father also reportedly narrated that everytime the suspect became high on drugs and was drunk, he would throw out his frustrations over their family feud, alleging that his father played favorites with his elder sibling.

“Until such time nga gabii, nibuto na gyud tung suspect nato... actually iyang ka anak naa na sa iyang lolo ug lola gauli kay layo man siya (suspect) kay magmaoy man,” Noserale said.

Noserale further said that the alleged feud has long been going on in the family.

The father, however, denied favoritism allegations among their children. In fact, he said that he even borrowed money for the bail of the suspect when the latter was previously arrested.

His father stated that it was their last hope that he might change but to no avail.

Recovered from the suspect were a snubnose caliber 9mm revolver loaded with four live ammunitions, and one fired cartridge case inside the cylinder. —
