Cebuano singer-songwriter drops latest single ‘Maria’

-

Nineteen-yearold rapper and R&B singer Trev is back from nearly a yearlong break from his previous solo single, with a groove-filled hip-hop track titled “Maria,” released independently last June 26 on all streaming platforms. Its music video premiered on YouTube on June 28.

With rising producer SNARE working on the song, "Maria" is a trap beat affair of Latino-inspired guitar arrangements and fast-paced rap. The track is a tribute to the trend of fast-paced culture and infatuation lasting not longer than a minute. With Spanish references snuck in, the flute playing loudly, and distant guitar melodies on the piece, one can’t fail to be reminded of the Latino culture that the track embodies.

Big names such as Meechy Darko and Brockhampton have greatly influenced Trev in his creative mindset, shown in his songs focused on experiences and struggles of young adults with deep underlying symbolisms and imagery of the night life and its culture.

Trev as an artist is no newcomer to the scene. The Cebuano singer has been releasing hits since he was 16, with his debut track "Purple Dreams" immediately spreading like wildfire on Soundcloud and gaining 60,000 streams on Spotify. Another track full of club vibes, "Say It," featuring Sober, premiered live on television on MYX Philippines.

Trev has also been an opening act for Midnasty, and is a member of the Careless collective.

He reached new heights last year with his single, "Hurt The Ones I Love," reaching the 29th spot on the Spotify-curated playlist Viral Top 50 PH. The R&B singer has previously come out with Cebuano rising star Xuede, releasing "Going Under," a track signed under Warner Music Philippines.
