Bernaldez fails in US campaign

- Dong Secuya of Philboxing.com

Mark ‘Machete’ Bernaldez failed to duplicate Mike Plania’s victory as he bowed to the undefeated American ‘Prince’ Albert Bell by a shutout unanimous decision on Top Rank’s ‘Live Boxing is Back’ series last Thursday night (Friday morning Phl time) inside “The Bubble” at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

The 6-footer Bell, who towers over Bernaldez, used his height and reach advantage and slick boxing skills to completely dominate the Filipino over 10 rounds.

Judges Tim Cheatham, Max DeLuca and Richard Ocasio gave all rounds to Bell with identical scores of 100 to 90.

Bell wisely fought from the outside and peppered the Sanmam Gym fighter from General Santos City with stinging jabs and combinations all night, painting Bernaldez’s face to crimson hue.

Bell hurt his right hand towards the end of the 9th round when he connected it to Bernaldez face but Bernaldez failded to capitalized on it as Bell fought one-handed in the final round.

Bell now improves his perfect record to 17-0 with 5KOs while Bernaldez dropped to 20-4 with 14KOs. —
