As soon as Cebu City reverts back to General Community Quarantine (GCQ), the organizers of the Cebu Business Month (CBM 2020) plan to start off virtual events focusing on four major sectors.

CBM 2020 over-all chairman Michael Cubos announced yesterday that the month-long event, which was supposedly held every month of June, will zoom in to virtual discussions on how to help the losing industries like tourism, and entrepreneurship (industries affected by the pandemic), while identifying the opportunities in the pandemic times gainer sectors, like Information Communications Technology/Business Process Management (IT/BPM) and the Creative sector.

According to Cubos, everything is set for the CBM 2020 events, however schedules have been moved depending on the quarantine protocols in Cebu City.

Still bannering the theme “Bring It On”, the Covid-19 pandemic brought about shift in topics and discussions on the specified webinars during the entire CBM celebration.

Stakeholders in tourism and entrepreneurship sectors will discuss thoroughly on how to cope with the difficulties the industries are going through all throughout the pandemic season, and how they can recover and rise above the challenges. Experts and industry strategists, economists will also be invited to impart their expertise and recommendations for the affected business owners or industry players.

On the other hand, while there are loser industries in the Covid-19 crisis, there are also sectors that are considered as “gainers”. These are the ICT/BPO and some creativerelated businesses.

Cubos said “Bring It On” theme would be seen in another side, bringing courage and inspiration to move on amid trying times for hard hit industries, and bring on the strength of gainers to take advantage of their full potential under the new normal.

The organizing committee of CBM 2020 under the direction of Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) has initially considered possible alterations of the events due to uncertainties, but they realized that technology nowadays does the magic.

“We are strengthening the live streaming component. So even if others cannot come, they can still participate the event,” Cubos clarified.

Organized by CCCI, this year’s business month celebration is the 24th CBM since its inception.

Aside from leisure tourists, major events scheduled towards the end of first quarter and second quarter this year have been moved or cancelled due to travel ban and virus scare.
