Didal can start training but ....

-

Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) officer-incharge Ramon Fernandez said Cebuana skateboard wonder Margielyn Didal can now start training in preparation for her quest to book a spot in next year’s Tokyo Olympics.

This after the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) had already given national athletes who already made the cut and those with chances to qualify for the quadrennial games the go signal to resume training in areas under General Community Quarantine (GCQ).

Fernandez, a four-time MPV and a record-holder of 19 PBA championships, said that since Didal lives in Cebu City that is still in a stricter Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ), the reigning Asian Games and Southeast (SEA) Games skateboarding queen can opt to train in neighboring towns or cities under GCQ.

Didal, who topped the Asian Championship 2020 Online Skate Lockdown Video Competition recently, is on the cusp of punching a ticket to the Tokyo Summer Games.

“IATF told us she (Didal) can now train in areas under GCQ,” Fernandez told Joey Villar of The Philippine STAR.

As of the moment, Didal sharpens her skills trains at a make shift training facility built by his carpenter father Lito outside their house in Barangay Lahug.

With no skate park to train coupled with the EC Q restrictions in Cebu City, Didal is left with no choice than to build her own training area.

The absence of a skate park here is really such an ordeal for Didal.

But inspite of all the challenges that smacked her way, Didal remains optimistic that she will be able to represent the country in the Olympics. — EBV with Caecent No-ot Magsumbol
