Guardo: Spaghetti wire eradication continues

Cebu City Councilor Jerry Guardo has assured that the city government’s spaghetti wire eradication program would continue along with a city-wide effort to address the uncovered water pipes that he recently pushed.

Guardo made the assurance after a netizen called him out on social media, to include the removal of dangling or dead wires that are also posing danger to the public.

“On-going pud ang atong spaghetti wire eradication program. This includes bundling and removal of dead wires,” Guardo told The Freeman.

He said the program has been going on but they only covered one area at a time.

“Tapok man gud ang team aron efficient ang pag-implement sa program, dili pwede tabok-tabok,” Guardo explained.

Guardo said the public can also bring up to him any areas of concern through his social media account.

Guardo recently pushed for a city-wide campaign to address the public hazard caused by water pipes that are left exposed on the ground. He said uncovered water pipes, especially those that are submerged in dirty canals, are posing danger to public health.

Guardo piloted the initiative in Barangay Sambag I where his wife, Aileen, is the barangay captain. According to him, they have already inspected Sitio San Roque.

“Nag-lambod ng mga PVC pipe na mura na og mga bitin. Sa sobrang kadaghanon, naghatag og dako’ng risgo na posible maka-disgrasya, mga slide ang mga senior citizen ug PWD ug pagkapandol sa mga mabdos ug bata labi na og madanlog ang mga tubo tiyempo sa pagulan,” he said in an earlier interview.

According to him, some water pipes are left submerged in water canals opening the possibility of contamination.

“Simbako og magleak ang tubo ilawom sa kanal, delikado kani na ma contaminate ang tubig, ma sudlan og kagaw ug mao hinungdan unya sa sakit sa mga kabanay ug mga bata,” Guardo explained.

He promised to sponsor an ordinance that will regulate water service suppliers in the city and accredit plumbing services to ensure service quality standard.
