Fashion VARIETY

New fashion trends continue to crop up in the midst of the global Covid-19 crisis, and following are takes on two of such.

A “pandemic fashion trend” in skirts for men

Skirts for men have recently been included in the autumn/ winter collections of some of the world’s leading names in fashion – a development which has pushed fashion pundits into terming it as an emerging “pandemic fashion trend.” Developed by big fashion names like Burberry and designer Stefan Cooke, the trend has been advocated by male celebrities like rappers Yungblud and Post Malone, singer Bad Bunny and actors Harry Styles and Jaden Smith.

Cited to be an after-effect of stay-at-home setup – the trend is borne from the idea that dressing comfortably at home is the new way to go.

Though it is certainly not the first time skirts for men had been made by big name players in fashion, the surge of interest in the item has been large enough for fashion editors to characterize it as a “big thing” in fashion that stems from the pandemic – with some going as far as labelling it to be a respite from constrained fashion norms and dress codes.

The “Pajama Suit”

Still an after-effect of stay-at-home setup, the trend in casual clothes made to look like corporate wear has been on the rise. Among the most talked about is the “Pajama Suit” by Japanese brand AOKI, a line which is basically composed of pajamas that are intentionally designed to look like business suits.

Marketed as clothes meant for Zoom meetings, the line initially made waves in December 2020. The collection comes in cuts for men and women that are made with light fabrics that come in predominantly dark colorways.

This design leaning makes the pajamas appear as though they are business suits when shot on video-teleconferencing platforms, and ultimately sets them as items that one can comfortably wear all day to attend virtual meetings and go about day-to-day tasks and chores without being unnecessarily over or underdressed.
