CTU campus to rise in Consolacion town

- Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon

The Municipality of Consolacion now has its own university, as Republic Act 11800 establishing a campus of Cebu Technological University (CTU) in the town lapsed into law last May 27, 2022.

The principal author of RA 11800, former Sixth District Representative and now Mandaue City Lone District Representative Emmarie “Lolypop” Ouano Dizon, said that with this law, students in Consolacion will no longer have to travel to Cebu City to get a college degree.

The first representative of Mandaue City Lone District, after it was separated from Cebu Sixth District effective this year, said that that is a welcome development also for parents who are bearing the brunt of rising fares and prices of basic commodities.

With the passage of the law, all assets and liabilities of the Consolacion Community College, including parcels of land owned by the government in the campus, will now be transferred to the CTU.

The amount needed, she said, for the operation of the CTU-Consolacion Campus will be included in the annual national budget.

The said law integrates the Consolacion Community College into the CTU system, and it will be known as the CTU-Consolacion Campus.

“We are all elated with this development. Ako kining halad sa katawhan sa Consolacion ug sa mga silingang dapit, bunga sa atong mga paningkamot to help uplift the lives of families. Education has been a huge priority in my list of programs, and this is one big proof of it,” said OuanoDizon in a statement.

RA 11800 was signed by Senate President Vicente Sotto III and House Speaker Lord Allan Velasco.

As her term ends as Sixth District Representative ends, she also extended her gratitude to former Consolacion Mayor Joannes Alegado, new Mayor Nene Alegado, and the SB Council of Consolacion for coordinating with her office to achieve their goals for the district.

During her first term, Ouano-Dizon also authored other bills that were approved by Congress, including the construction of a tri-level structure to ease traffic congestion at the northern highway in Mandaue near the Pacific Mall.

She has also implemented scholarship programs, skills training for the youth, among other social benefits for the constituents of the Sixth district. —
