LAST DAY OF THE LIMITED F2F CLASSES

- By Zaida Marie A. Tambis

“Time flies like an arrow.” I remember Teacher Janette telling us. She reminded us to use our time wisely and never waste it.

That was a very memorable week for me because I won my best friend back. Karen and I couldn’t spend much time in the classroom but because we would wait for our parents at the gate together, we still got to do things with each other.

There were only fifteen of us in the class. I didn’t expect to miss my classmates when we part ways, but on the last day of class, all of us got emotional. Terence, the funniest guy was quiet that day. He didn’t throw any jokes. We were all surprised when he handed out some pens for all of us. “These will be my goodbye gift for you. I hope you like them.”

I thought that was the only surprise that day, but Dianne wrote a letter for each of us, including the teachers.

Why didn’t I think of doing something for my classmates? Was I too focused on Karen that I forgot that they were special, too?

“Wow, that is a very nice fan, Jenny.” I said when I saw its design. “Thanks. Karen gave it to me.” She answered. I felt my stomach turn. I felt something in my chest that I couldn’t explain. “Karen? Why did Karen give her a fan?” I asked myself. I couldn’t bring myself to look at her. I felt tears welling up in my eyes.

“Kate? Are you okay?” Kristelle asked me as I ran to the restroom. I didn’t know what I felt and why I felt that way. I could hear my classmates getting noisier so I decided to go back to my seat. Everyone was holding different things. They were all very beautiful. Some had face towels, rulers, colorful erasers and other pretty stuff.

What really caught my eye was the bear sitting on my chair. It had a card stuck in its shirt. I burst into tears when I read what was written in it.

I didn’t prepare anything for her, so I just thanked her with a tight hug. Our teachers came to the classroom and asked to go back to our seats. They prepared songs and messages for us. Of all that was said, I will never forget the one from Teacher Zam “If you find a true friend, cherish her because true friends are like diamonds. They are very hard to find.”

?? Love, Karen ?? Dear Kate,
I appreciate everything that you have done.
No one will ever replace you as my best friend. Hug this bear whenever you miss me.
