Planning A City Tour

For Visiting Cousins

- By Zaida Marie A. Tambis

Mama got a call from her brother telling her that her children were coming to visit from Leyte. She promised them a city tour.

I have been living in Cebu City since I was born but there are so many places here that my family has only seen on tv or on the Internet. Mama said Marvin and Joseph weren’t born yet the last time Uncle Tenny and his wife visited our place.

“What? They will be travelling by themselves? That is so cool!” Ate Fe exclaims. I haven’t been anywhere outside our subdivision by myself, so I’m not sure how it feels to be on a bus and a ship without my parents. What my mind is focused on right now are the places that we will visit during the tour.

“Fe, I saw that bucketlist you posted on your bedroom wall. Kindly check which of those can be done within the city.” Mama tells her.

“How about the places I want to visit, Ma?” I ask. “As long as they’re in Cebu, we’ll do our best to include them.” Her reply doesn’t sound very convincing. Thankfully, Ate Fe asks me to write the list with her.

“Why don’t you write a short description of each place? That way, it will be easier for us to arrange.” Papa suggested.

After a few minutes, we proudly presented our list to our parents:

1. Cebu Ocean Park – It has a giant aquarium with different kinds of fish from all over the world, including sharks. They have creepy crawlies, too. Their bird show is one thing we don’t want to miss.

2. Cebu Safari and Adventure Park – It is a large area with lions, zebras, cheetahs and lots of other animals. We heard that their giraffes are very friendly.

3. Anjo World Theme Park – This is the only place where we can experience playing with snow in Cebu. Their amusement park rides are worth waiting in line for.

4. Waterworld Cebu – This is not a very big place but their chidlren’s swimming pool has lot of slides and tunnels. They have a lazy river and a huge wave pool.

We only wrote down four because some of the items on Ate Fe’s bucketlist are not in Cebu. There are also places that are in Cebu but we don’t think are fun for us.

“Wow, you really put a lot of thought into this, but you forgot to include the churches. We should start each day of the tour with a holy mass. Let’s go to the Basilica del Santo Niño on the first day.” Mama said.

“Okay, Ma.” Ate Fe and I said in chorus.
