MCIAA vows improved service as it marks 32nd year
Despite the ongoing pandemic, the Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA) will continue to work to improve its service for the full reopening of tourism activities.
In a program that marked the 32nd anniversary of the authority, MCIAA chief executive officer and general manager and Julius Neri Jr. said that despite the last two years of the Covid-19 pandemic affecting the travel industry, they are finding ways to improve their service as they prepare for the reopening of tourism.
“We would like to send a message to everyone, that being the best in the Philippines is not enough, we will push forward towards our goal to have the most passenger-friendly airport in Asia,” Neri said.
Latest statistics from the MCIAA revealed that the airport received more than 2 million passengers during the first half of this year, a big increase compared to 2021.
The MCIAA manages and operates the Mactan International Airport, a government-owned premier gateway to the Central Visayas.
It celebrated its 32nd year anniversary at Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino on Monday, August 1.
The celebration also paved way for the launching of its new logo and latest music video.
Meanwhile, the newly appointed Department of Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco, in her speech, said that they will strengthen their collaborations with all the agencies, LGUs, and stakeholders, including the MCIAA.
This will include measures to develop and implement projects that set the groundwork for the recovery of the industry -- such as the modernization of airports and sea ports -- to maximize their position in the Asia Pacific.
“We relay our utmost support to the future status of the MCIAA and we anticipate a fruitful partnership with you, now and in the future,” said Frasco.
“After all growth in tourism and transportation always go hand in hand,” she added.
During the program, MCIAA also presented special appreciation plaques to Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia, former Office of the Presidential Assistant for Visayas Hon. Michael Dino, and LapuLapu City Mayor Junard Chan, for their leadership during the challenging times.
The event also acknowledged retirees and employees for their commendable contributions to the development of MCIAA. —
