Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama revealed that some things will be unraveled soon as the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) continues its investigation into the city’s controversial garbage deal.

Rama said this after talking to the newly appointed NBI chief Medardo de Lemos.

“First, I was connecting with the Director today (Tuesday), Medardo de Lemos, as I wish to congratulate the new NBI head all over the country because he used to be the director here in the City of Cebu,” said Rama.

Rama said he had also been briefed on some updates though did not elaborate regarding the garbage deal after congratulating de Lemos through phone for the latter’s appointment.

“I was briefed that there will be things to be unraveled and actions will have to be expected from the NBI especially that documents have already been presented, if I’m not mistaken, from the City Treasurer’s Office,” Rama added.

Rama said he told the NBI to do its jobs well as everyone else is also awaiting progress on the investigation.

“I was telling them please do your job because ako silang giingnan ako ra bay paninglan,” said Rama.

But for now, Rama said, “abangan lang ang susunod” while telling the media to constantly follow up with the NBI regarding this matter.

Councilor Nestor Archival accordingly also suggested that a multi-sectoral investigation body should be formed in the city but Rama said he will just wait for the NBI’s investigation to be done.

“I don’t want to be arguing with a very able councilor Nestor but let’s wait for the NBI on what will be coming out because that’s their mandate,” Rama said.

The mayor expressed full trust and confidence while asking the rest to give the NBI the benefit of doubt.

“I have full trust and confidence in the leadership of the present NBI director and the staff. Give them the benefit of the doubt,” said Rama. —
