The Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CCDRRMO) is closely monitoring at least three mountain barangays in the city due to some earth cracks.

The three identified barangays include Bonbon, Babag and Sirao. Along with this, the CCDRRMO is asking for the assistance of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-7 to conduct another survey in the area.

CCDRRMO head Harold Alcontin said his office together with MGB-7 already checked the area last year.

“Last week sa August (2022) nag-conduct ta og series of assessment sa area kay noticeable na man ang mga gitawag nato nga landslide. So, atong giawhag ang…MGB nga na silay ipang-release nga advisories,” Alcontin said.

With the heavy rains in the last two months of 2022, CCDRRMO conducted another inspection recently and found that the earth movements along Sirao are getting worse.

Alcontin said the CCDRRMO will have to wait for MGB-7’s advisory before taking the appropriate action.

“We can also recommend for the no build zone or danger zone sa areas nga gi-verify sa MGB nga kanang susceptible na gyud kaayo sa landslide,” Alcontin said, if the case may be.

Task Force Likay sa Landslide head, Atty. Jerone Castillo, during the task force’s meeting this week said MGB-7 is also expected to give their recommendations and advisory to the Task Force right away. The task force will then forward it to Mayor Michael Rama for the final say.

Aside from that, the city’s Public Information Office reported that the barangay captains in these barangays are also expected to be involved in monitoring and should get a copy of the report from the MGB for proper action.
