Cebu City cops on full alert status on Feb. 24-25
The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) will be on full alert status on February 24, Friday, and on the 25th, Saturday, due to upcoming major events.
On February 24, Cebu City will celebrate its 86th Charter Day and on the 25th will be the 37th EDSA People Power commemoration.
Police Lt. Col. Janette Rafter, deputy director for operations at CCPO, said that they already have security plans for the weeklong activities of the Cebu City Government for the upcoming Charter Day.
The activities started on February 17 through a tree planting at South Road Properties as well as an exhibit by Don Vicente Rama at the lobby of the Cebu City Hall.
"It's a week-long activity and we already have prepared a separate security plan for each activity because there are activities inside the establishment and there are activities outside, each of the activities requires a different kind of security level," said Lt. Col. Rafter.
Meanwhile, even though the police have not yet received information that the cause-oriented event will be held in commemoration of EDSA People Power this Saturday, Lt. Col. Rafter said they are ready for it.
The official said they will give a few minutes to the cause oriented groups to stage their movement and express their grievances.
The official only requested those who will hold the event that they do not disturb the flow of traffic.
However, Rafter pointed out that the cause oriented groups in Cebu are not aggressive and he hopes that next Saturday they will hold their activities peacefully.
"Preemption nato for any...para pud also in case there will be eventualities and I hope nga amo nang i-ampo, gihangyo ang tanan sa pag kooperar nga wala'y mahitabo nianang mga aktibidades nga naa atong mga kapulisan to immediately react," said Rafter.
