Man proposes, God Disposes

-

Everyone sets a plan for life. For one reason or another, some of our plans go awry or do not materialize. We might be frustrated, dismayed or angry with how things pan out, but we have to remember in the wisdom of the saying, “Man proposes, God disposes.”

Our plans might be great and profound, but God always has a better plan for us. Sometimes, life can be confusing and stressful that it can be difficult to understand what God wants for us over the noise of the world. The cu website writes, “And the truth is, God knows what he wants for us and He is in control of our plans. He has the blueprint for our lives drawn up.”

I’m reminded of the wedding of my late husband’s friend. Everyone, especially, the members of the entourage, was fidgety when the bride didn’t arrive on the wedding ceremony schedule.

The groom was sweating all over. Everyone was looking at the church door wondering when the bride would arrive. She did not show up, and a messenger eventually arrived and informed everyone, especially the groom, that the bride.

We later found out that she found another man, and had plans to leave for another country. The father of the groom fainted, while the groom was in a state of shock.

It was a terrible day, but God has other plans for him. After several years, he met a woman deserving of his love, and after three years of marriage, they were blessed with two beautiful children.

This life can be hard, but through trials, the Lord makes us stronger. In times of tribulation, our faith is able to grow and multiply, and we are able to achieve what He wants for our lives.

We have to follow God’s plan for our life, no matter how intricate our own plans are, and here are some ways on how to go about it:

• Walk with God. You must learn to walk with God. You need to develop a relationship with Him. Faith is all about relationship, rather than just being about religion.

• Be in prayer. Take time each day to devote yourself to the Lord and the plans He has for you. If you are giving each area of your life to God, then He will bless it and be able to work through it abundantly.

• Actively Read the Word. Taking just a few minutes each day to read what’s in the Word will give you a better understanding of the calling God has put on your life, and will allow you to better live out the life He desires for you.

• Surrender to God. To know God’s will, you need to surrender yourself to Him. If you cannot decide on what you want, then ask for God’s will to guide you. A practical step of surrendering to God is to pray a prayer of surrender. This does not have to be a very long prayer, but it can be simple.

• Listen to God’s voice. Sometimes all we need to do is stop talking and let God speak to us. Ask the Holy Spirit to speak to you. Be open and willing for God to speak, and listen to His voice.
