Regie ‘The Filipino Phenom’ Suganob of PMI Bohol Stable delivered a dominant performance leading to an eighth round technical decision win over Mark ‘Rasta Mac’ Vicelles of Cebu’s Omega Gym in their IBF light flyweight title eliminator topbilling the “Kumong Bol-anon IX:A Tribute of the Maestro” of PMI Bohol Boxing Promotions on Saturday night at the Calape Cultural Center in Calape, Bohol.

Fighting with poise and composure, Suganob was in command right from the opening bell. Gaining confidence while on the attack mode, the pride of the Boholanos sneaked in a solid right straight to the jaw that sent Vicelles down on the canvas in round four.

Things got even worse for Vicelles when he suffered a nasty cut over his right eye due to accidental clash of heads in the sixth round.

The injury of Vicelles was further aggravated after being hit by Suganob’s precise shots that eventually forced referee Danrex Tapdasan to halt the bout upon the advice of ringside physician Rene Bonsubre at the 1:39 mark of round eight.

As the match was scheduled for 12 rounds, the officials turned to the scorecards to determine the winner.

The three judges scored 80-71, 78-73, and 77-74 all in favor of Suganob for the technical decision verdict.

Aside from stretching his perfect record to 13-0 spiked with 4KOs, the 26-year-old Suganob also becomes the mandatory challenger to South African champion Sevi Nontshinga (11-0, 9KOs).

“Ako gyud gipaningkamotan nga modaog kay naay opportunity nga maka-away ko og world title fight. Pangandoy ni nako sa kinabuhi mao nang nalipay kaayo ko nga ako na-achieve nako ang kadaogan,” said Suganob.

If given a chance, PMI Bohol Boxing Stable promoter and manager Floriezyl Echavez Podot said they are keen on promoting the Suganob-Nontshinga IBF title showdown either in Cebu or Manila.

“For me, Suganob is already ripe and ready for a world title fight. As much as we wanted to stage it here in the country, we’re also willing to travel to South Africa to challenge the champion (Nontshinga). But it all depends on how things will work out along the way,” said Podot.

In the supporting main event, Suganob’s fellow unbeaten stablemate Shane Gentallan snatched the WBO Oriental Youth minimumweight crown with a smashing second-round knockout of Indonesian Faisol Akbar.

Towards the end of round two, Gentallan connected with an energysapping left-right combo to the body that flattened Akbar for good. The hapless Indon grimaced in pain on the mat, unable to beat the count of referee Rey Caitom.
