31 households evacuated in Barangay Pulangbato
At least 31 households have been placed under preventive evacuation following a landslide at Sitio Candarong Riverside, Barangay Pulangbato, Cebu City last Monday.
The City Environment and Natural Resources Office reminded the barangay officials that quarrying and other earthmoving activities in the upland barangays remain suspended.
Ramil Ayuman, Mayor Michael Rama’s special assistant, said a total of 175 individuals had been evacuated to safer ground.
The Department of Social Welfare and Services (DSWS) headed by Dr. Ester Concha immediately provided relief goods to the affected families.
Barangay Pulangbato Councilman Clyde Limpag, who heads the barangay’s committee on disaster response, only one family is staying at the evacuation center while the rest of the affected families are with their relatives.
“Kuan na diha, halos mga same families ra, mao to ni-transfer ra sa ilang mga igsoon nga balay, mga pagumangkon, mga kasilingan ra na balay,” said Limpag.
The landslide happened following a heavy rain in the area.
“Kusog-kusog gyud tong uwana…Magsige gyud na’g lihok ang yuta diha, pero ginagmay ra ba, kato gyud ang grabe-grabe,” said Limpag.
Earlier, the CCENRO head Arlie Gesta sent a letter to Pulangbato Barangay Captain Marlene Macua reminding her that suspension of quarry and earth-moving activities are still suspended under the mayor revokes his Executive Order no.13 series of 2022.
Illegal quarry operations in the upland barangays are believed to have aggravated the earth movement in the area.
“Failure to heed such suspension order shall be a ground for criminal and administrative prosecution and cancellation of all permits and privileges,” part of Gesta’s letter showed as posted on the barangay’s social media page.
