A total of P13.4 million of assistance from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) was handed to beneficiaries mostly for the cities of Cebu and Mandaue earlier this week.

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., together with DOLE Secretary Laguesma, personally handed over the DOLE’s assistance during their visit here in Cebu last Monday to the recipients.

The Community MultiPurpose Cooperative of Paknaan, Mandaue City received P498,264 in livelihood assistance for its water refilling station business, according to DOLE.

The Mabolo Transport Cooperative, on the other hand, got P1.9 million for its Entsupreneurship Project in coordination with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB-7).

The Bogo-Medellin Milling Co., Inc. (BOMEDCO), for its part, received a total of P1,250,000 to operationalize its egg production, cattle fattening, and rice retailing projects.

The livelihood assistance that DOLE-7 released on that day summed up to P3, 655,768.10 benefiting 178 individuals.

“We are very glad because the recipients were so much honored as it’s no less than the President, himself, together with Sec. Benny Laguesma, who personally turned over the assistance to them,” said DOLE-7 OICRegional Director Lilia A. Estillore.

DOLE-7 also released the wages of 2,435 TUPAD workers amounting to P9.8 million, who did community work in the different barangays in the cities of Cebu and Mandaue.

TUPAD workers in barangays Tisa, DuljoFatima, Kalunasan and Pasil in Cebu City, DOLE-7 shelled out P870,000 for their respective beneficiaries. Each of said barangays recorded 200 TUPAD workers.

These beneficiaries cleaned up, swept, declogged canals, and sanitized specifically identified areas.

A few more barangays belonging to the Cebu City South District tallied 209 TUPAD workers, who were paid P909,150 for rendering clean-up drive particularly sweeping, declogging, and disinfecting activities.

For doing the same kind of work, the 114 TUPAD workers in barangay Casili, Mandaue City got P495,900 as payment for their wages.

About 1,134 in Liloan, Cebu were paid P4.9 million for assisting their town in delivering essential goods and in doing disinfection and sanitation works.

“Under TUPAD alone, we released a total of Php9,817,950.00 benefiting 2,257 individuals. This amount only covered the wages of the workers. This is still not inclusive of the amount spent by DOLE to cover the one-year group accident insurance of the TUPAD workers,” said Estillore.
