A senior citizen who was accused of stabbing to death his neighbor last Sunday at Sitio Mahayahay, Barangay Buenavista, Carcar City was arrested in a hot pursuit operation conducted by the personnel of the Carcar City Police Station.

Carcar Police Station Chief, Police Lt. Col. Ardioleto Cabagnot, identified the suspect as Mario Regis Jr., a resident of Sitio Kalubihan, Barangay Buenavista, while the victim was Aljun Tante Baclay, 43, a resident of the same place.

Cabagnot said both the victim and the suspect had a conflict in the past.

The police found out that the victim is said to have a tendency to push and pick a fight.

At that time, the suspect allegedly had a fight with his wife, but got aggravated when he met the victim.

According to Cabagnot, Regis reportedly returned home and took a knife with him because he allegedly knew that the victim would also be carrying a knife.

When Regis and Baclay returned to the same place and met again, their argument continued. Regis reportedly tried to walk away, but the victim allegedly approached him, causing him to stab the victim with a knife.

After the suspect had committed the crime, he reportedly ran through the bushes and followed a stream until he reached Barangay Guadalupe, where he boarded a Ceres bus going to Badian.

"Hadlok man pud siya mo-surrender kay kato pud iyang biktima naa may paryente nga police. Hadlok siya nga baslan ba, so mao to nagpahatod kog direktiba nga og naay mga kaliwat ipaingon surrender nalang diha kaysa ma disgrasya pa," said Cabagnot.

He added that they got a lead that the suspect was hiding in Badian, so they went to the area and had successfully arrested the suspect.
