The Land Transportation Office will be embarking on a historical endeavor of collecting P43 billion revenues for this year.

LTO chief, Assistant Secretary, Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza, II, said that they will do this through aggressive information drive and implementation of strategies that will convince more delinquent vehicle owners to renew their registration and for others to renew their registration on time.

In a statement, Mendoza said that he already met with LTO regional directors and gave them guidance in terms of initial plans to achieve the P43 billion revenue collection target for this year.

“What we need are aggressive information drives and strict enforcement of traffic laws and regulations,” the LTO chief said.

Mendoza said that the revenue collection target is essential in funding not only the programs and projects of the agency but also those of the administration of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. through the “Bagong Pilipinas” vision.

He said that the P43 billion revenue target for 2024 is around 28 percent higher than the P31 billion target in 2023—which made it historical for the agency since it is the first time that the LTO increased its collection goal by such a huge number.

The LTO chief said that the revenue target is very high but this is not the first time that they confront what seems to be an impossible task to achieve but with their continuous cooperation and hard work, he is sure that they will achieve another milestone by accomplishing this task.

But he said even with their limitations, they have to do it together because they have to generate more revenues for the agency, for the national government, and for the Filipino people as a whole.

Mendoza was quick to clarify that the increased revenue target does not mean that the LTO should focus more on apprehending as many motorists since this would defeat the overall intention of the agency to impose initiative among the motorists to be law-abiding at all times, even if no one is looking and threatening them for arrest.

This is the part, according to Mendoza, that a strategic plan and massive information drive would come into play.

Mendoza explained that with Filipinos known for being among the top in using social media platforms around the world, the challenge now is how to maximize the ideas to encourage more people to be committed to the obligations that come with motor vehicle ownership and the privilege of owning a driver’s license. -
