‘Rewind’ sets new record as PH’s highest-grossing film
Star Cinema’s official entry for the 2023 Metro Manila Film Festival, “Rewind” with Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera sets a new record as the Philippines’ highest grossing film of all time, recording a gross total of P845 million local and international sales, as of January 17.
Co-produced by APT Entertainment and Agosto Dos Pictures, “Rewind” has earned a total gross of P815 million in local sales, joining the top-grossing Filipino film list alongside other Star Cinema films “Hello Love Goodbye” with P691 million domestic sales and “The Hows of Us” with P660 million domestic sales.
Since its release on Christmas day, “Rewind” has taken social media by storm, engaging netizens in the #RewindEffect challenge by flexing their before and after movie experience. The film has consistently trended as one of the top topics in X (formerly Twitter) Philippines.
The overwhelming positive reception has led to sold-out screenings at multiple cinemas, prompting additional schedules and extended runs nationwide. With the success of director Mae Cruz Alviar’s “Rewind,” head of ABSCBN Films, Kriz Gazmen expressed gratitude and hope for the entire film industry.
“I want to share this success with the whole film industry. Finally, after everything that happened, lahat tayo takot na takot sa box office, magkakaroon pa pala ng ganitong opportunity. We also want to share the success of ‘Rewind’ with all the other MMFF entries. It was a very beautiful run. This is also a win to all our audiences. Salamat sa lahat ng nakapanood,” he said.
During the film’s thanksgiving party, Dingdong and Marian couldn’t hold back their emotions as they shared their whole experience in making the film and seeing the reception of the audience during their cinema tour.
“Nung binasa namin ni Dong ‘to, siguro bonus nalang na ito yung figure na nakuha natin. Pero sa simula palang alam namin na maraming pinagdaanan ang mga tao nung pandemic, at sabi namin ni Dong, sana gawin tayong instrumento ni Lord para kapag napanood nila yung pelikula ay mayroong mabago at mas mahalin pa ng mga ito ang pamilya nila at lahat ng nakapaligid sa kanila,” Marian shared.
