47 BHWs undergo basic competency training in Tuburan
The Department of Health Central Visayas Center for Health Development (DOHCVCHD) in collaboration with the municipal government of Tuburan, Cebu conducted a Basic Competency Training for Barangay Health Workers (BHWs).
A total of 47 participants attended the first batch of the training, which aimed at empowering BHWs as frontline resources in achieving Universal Health Care (UHC) goals.
According to the health department, the BHWs are now designated as Health Promotion Officers at the barangay level, tasked with improving health literacy, healthy behaviors, and practices and creating healthier environments in their communities.
This is in aligned with the Action Agenda 5 of DOH’s 8-Point Action Agenda known as “Pag-iwas sa sakit” (Disease prevention and health promotion). The 8-point agenda addresses all relevant aspects and sectors related to public health.
This also supports the agency's strategy of bringing primary care services closer to the people by strengthening Barangay Health Workers.
“The DOH Central Visayas CHD remains committed to supporting frontline health workers in delivering accessible and high-quality healthcare services for the realization of Universal Health Care,” it said in a statement.
The UHC, also referred to as Kalusugan Pangkalahatan (KP), is the “provision to every Filipino of the highest possible quality of health care that is accessible, efficient, equitably distributed, adequately funded, fairly financed, and appropriately used by an informed and empowered public”.
