Anticipating traffic congestion on Sunday due to the Sinulog sa Carmen, Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia has ordered a truck ban between the boundary of Danao City to Carmen and Carmen to Catmon from 12:01 a.m. on January 28, 2024 until 12:01 a.m. on the following day.

Garcia issued an executive order directing the Philippine National Police to strictly implement the truck ban, which covers six-wheelers and above. A separate executive order was also issued by Carmen town Mayor Carlo Villamor to regulate the vehicle traffic in the town this weekend.

Villamor’s executive order includes closure of several public roads in the municipality. Among the roads that will be closed for the Sinulog on Sunday are MCKinley St., Cogon West, Kamuning St., Poblacion, and P. Gecain St.

Dawis Norte will also be off limits to habal-habal coming from the upper barangays in the northwestern and southwestern areas.

This is to allow a smooth flow of traffic, closing portion of roads from vehicles coming from the upper barangays is vital as volume of people are expected to witness the annual celebration.

Meanwhile, the municipal government has also identified the designated parking areas, including the Carmen Memorial Park open space and neighboring area in Dawis Norte; Camara property and neighboring area in Poblacion; Cebu Technological University parking area in Poblacion; and Shemberg Biotech property and neighboring area in Cogon West Section.

The Carmen Municipal Police station and all Punong Barangays are requested to help in the dissemination and enforcement of the order.

A separate executive order also shows that several streets will be used as a walking area with a supplemental executive order to be issued to identify the roads that will be closed.

“Carmenanons and visitors are encouraged to walk going to and from the church and to and from the grandstand. They can park their vehicles in the designated parking areas,” Villamor said.

Residents within the areas affected by the road closure are advised to park their vehicles in barangays not covered by the executive order for road closure. --
