OCCCI backstops BPBL Season 2 Central Visayas Finals
The Metro Ormoc Community Multi-Purpose Cooperative also known as OCCCI is based in Leyte but its support to grassroots sports development goes beyond its home province.
Testament to that, OCCCI lends a hand to the genuine program of the Batang Pilipino Basketball League as copresentor of the BPBL Season 2 Central Visayas Regional Finals slated on February 2-4 at the Carmen Sports and Activity Center in the municipality of Carmen in northern Cebu.
The OCCCI Sheermasters also participated and even finished as first runner-up in the Sinulog Cup 2024 Basketball Tournament recently.
“One of the advocacies of OCCCI is sports. We want to help them have an opportunity to showcase their talents and skills. I hope that this league will continue and grow into a wellknown and helpful league,” said OCCCI Chief Operations Officer Mizpah Aira Taala.
In all, 11 teams scattered in three age groups will be seeing action in the three-day tilt with slots to the National Finals this July up for grabs.
The contenders in the Under 13 division are Mommy’s Choice of Danao City, University of San Carlos (USC) Baby Warriors of Cebu City, and 1521 x Hype Basketball of Cebu Province.
In the Under 16, vying for top honors are the Young Ballers Club of Bohol Province, Brodie 7 Hasslers of Tagbilaran City, Ronbucz Basketball of Talisay City, Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles of Mandaue City, and Brgy. Estaca of Compostela.
Slugging it out for the Under 18 crown are the host Carmen Niños, University of Cebu (UC) Baby Webmasters of Cebu City, and the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Baby Panthers representing Mandaue.
“It is also a fulfillment for us to extend our blessings to those who need. We also want to be vessels of kind deeds who will bring the youth to the stage, not us being taken to the stage by the youth,” said OCCCI Chief Finance Officer Arvin Villena.
BPBL Region 7 coordinator Van Halen Parmis of Down Under Promotions said they are extremely grateful to OCCCI for backing up their worthwhile endeavor.
“Here in BPBL, we want to let our players to know and feel the spirit of grassroots, “Lahat Makakalaro”. We want to let them experience the happiness of playing basketball. We want them to have a chance to showcase their skills and talents,” said Parmis. --
