Sweet comeback for Kris Janson at MUP-Cebu
The inaugural edition of Miss Universe Philippines Cebu mounted a show for the books as its Grand Coronation, Saturday, at the Pacific Grand Ballroom of Waterfront Cebu City Hotel & Casino pumped up a province which had recent social and cultural events that might have had some already overcome with pageant fatigue.
Supporters of MUPCebu’s 20 candidates came out in full force, notably for the Top 2 contenders, Kris Tiffany Janson representing Cebu City North) and Juvel Mangubat Ducay of Bantayan Island.
Janson, a 34-year-old former Miss Cebu and Miss Intercontinental 2014 second runner-up, came out victorious, clinching the Miss Universe Philippines Cebu 2024. Asked during the final Q&A to create a major headline in Cebu tomorrow that is socially relevant, she said, “If I were to create a headline, it would be Cebu: Empowering Stronger Women because Cebu is known to be a very open city and what I love about Cebu is that we are very welcoming, and we do love, and we empower our women. We build communities for stronger women and that is the future universe that we can share with each other.”
Other winners are Miss Universe Philippines Cebu Tourism Juvel Mangubat Ducay (Bantayan Island), Miss Universe Philippines Cebu Charity Nica Zosa Nabua (Minglanilla), Miss Universe Philippines Cebu Heritage Mary Josephine Paaske (Talisay City), and The Miss Philippines Cebu Natasha Testa (Lapu-Lapu City).
