Rama sorry for workers affected by rightsizing
Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama has apologized ahead to the City Hall employees who will be affected by his rightsizing program.
The mayor said an evaluation is currently ongoing to determine who will stay and who will not be renewed of their contracts.
“Pasayloa lang mi kung di gyud mo madala, kay pirte rang dakoa sa barko nga gikinahanglan nato sa tinuod lang,” Rama told the employees during the regular flag raising yesterday.
The mayor has been constantly reminding the employees of the city government of the rightsizing program wherein the number of workers will be trimmed down to 3,000 from the current count of 10,000.
It has been reported that the performance evaluation is ongoing to determine who will be retained and those will no longer be renewed. As the overall process is expected to be completed and implemented until 2025, Rama calls upon the employees to avoid “jealousy” for those who will be retained saying that the “there will be another time”.
“This is just my first term. There will be next year. There will be a year after, whether position of no position, ing-ana akong utok. Dili ko makalimot. Makalimot nga mahuman ang kalihokan, makalimtan na nako ang mga tawo nga nisakripisyo way katulog for one whole week,” said Rama.
According to Rama, those who will be retained will be fortunate ones. It was back in July 2023 that the mayor started warning all City Hall employees that he would weed out dishonest, indolent, and insincere employees, as part of the plan to implement “rightsizing” in each department.
Rightsizing, as compared to downsizing, is the process of making an organization more effective with just the right number of employees.
In line with this, the city government previously assured that no one will be left behind in the implementation of the rightsizing as programs are now underway for the displaced employees.
They also said that they will be adopting the “hybrid” scheme which means that those who will fall short during the evaluation will have either three months or six months left of appointment.
