Magis Eagles complete golden treble
Sweep all three basketball crowns in Mandaue City Division Meet
The Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles completed a golden treble in basketball event of the Mandaue City Division Meet 2024 on Sunday, February 4, at the Mandaue City Sports and Cultural Complex.
In the secondary boys 5x5 cage wars, the Magis Eagles of coach Rommel Rasmo successfully defended their throne after pummeling the University of Cebu Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue (UCLM) Baby Webmasters, 65-48, in their lopsided final duel.
Eric Jabalon shepherded the Magis Eagles to sweet success with 16 points. Alden Cainglet chipped in 13 markers, while Dylan Jared Lim caught part of the spotlight with 11 points on a spectacular 3-of-3 shooting from the 3-point land.
The other members of the Magis Eagles champion team are Fourth Teruel, Froilan Maglasang, Lars Fjellvang, Jed Asis, Jacob Lacson, Jelomar Rota, Baron Figueras, Ellieken Lim, and Brent Lester Cortes.
The decisive victory sets up the Magis Eagles to a grudge rematch with their archrivals University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers in the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) Meet calendared for May.
The Magis Eagles edged past the Baby Lancers, two games to one, to seal their second three-peat in last year’s Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) Season 23 and seventh title overall since their historic campaign in 2012.
Meanwhile, Drexler Jordan Lim showed nerves of steel in hitting crucial free throws to power the Magis Eagles to a thrilling 19-15 win over the equally-tough Paknaan National High School ballers in the secondary boys 3x3 final of the Mandaue division meet.
Lim joined hands with Aaron Abutazil, John Wilhelm Go, and Kirk Dayohim in catapulting the Ateneo Hearters to crowning glory and a berth to the CVIRAA Meet behind the tutelage of coach Helben Regodon and his trusted lieutenant Edilio “Eyu” Abellanosa.
In elementary boys 5x5 hoop, the Magis Eagles reigned supreme after subduing Opao Elementary School.
Under the guidance of coach Gabriel Joseph Catolico and his assistant Gio Laguyo, the Magis Eagles elementary hardcourt warriors that will carry the fight for Mandaue in the Regionals this summer are Matthew Caleb Acorin, Kristyler Matthew Arago, Reb Cortes, Arnold Cugal, Ford Malcolm Dy, Vinz Rowell Juban, Phil Kaiser Lanuza, Johan Pierre Lastimosa, Sean Pepito Maitem IV, Mikel Maquilan, Jose Victorio Suico, and Matt Enzo Zanoria.
