The Transformative Power of Love
The true essence of love is magic in itself. It is a power that cannot be underestimated. Without love, this world would be empty. It’ll be like a river without water, dry and bereft of life’s energies.
In the simplest of terms, love is a powerful emotion that can compel a person into soaring to greater heights.
On the flip side, the absence of love can incapacitate one’s full potential in life, which is the reason why it is crucial to survival.
I can still remember a few years back when a listener of my radio program “Mom From the HEART”, which aired on DYAP, dropped by the studio one evening to see me personally.
As I was about to hug her, she took a few steps back and said “Ma’am, I’m sorry. I’m not used to being hugged. My mother never hugged me.” At the back of my mind, I could only surmise that her mother was not the affectionate type.
Seline Shenoy of dreamcatch.com has this to say on the matter: “Studies have shown that if newborn babies do not receive sufficient human physical touch, they can die, even if all their physical needs are met”.
“Also, people living solitary lifestyles or those who have troubled relationships have significantly lower lifespans.”
“It is critical that we step out of our self-made islands and seek out meaningful connections. We need to swim away from the shallow end of the emotional pool and submerge ourselves into the depths of it, because that’s where the real treasures of life are and where love can transform us.”
Love, truly, has its own magic. It can transform us and change us for the better in the following ways:
It is beneficial for our physical health
Whenever we feel love, our body releases a flood of feel-good hormones that affects our biochemistry. Happy hormones such as dopamine, serotonin and oxytocin have a healing impact.
Studies have shown that genuine feelings of kinship provide numerous physiological benefits, such as fighting disease like cancer, lowering stress levels, prolonging lifespans and boosting our immune system and mental capacity.
We become more compassionate and emphatic
Love is a healing emotion that has the power to soften a person’s heart. People who feel lonely and unloved tend to be more cynical and mean-spirited.
We feel more confident, capable and brave
When you feel loved and supported, you become fearless and have the courage to take bigger and smarter risks. You don’t feel like a lone ranger in your quest for success because you know you have a support group. Pure unconditional love will ultimately strengthen you and support you in your endeavors.
It gives us a positive outlook in life
When you are engaged in doing something that you love, whether it’s pet project or being in a healthy relationship, your mind enters a state of peace and serenity. This, in turn, will help you experience a sense of balance and joy.
Love is our birthright. It is the universal force that gives life to us all, and its transformative power should never be underestimated.
