Cebu Car Spotter

- Paul John Hermogenes cebucarspotter@gmail.com

My name is Paul John Hermogenes, a regular person, an individual who loves to take photos and videos of random things and edit them for social media posting. It was in 2017 when I started creating videos and vlogs of what I do at home and just about anything, among which is a video of my son taking a bath and changing his clothes.

I initially started taking photos of random things, edited them and posted on my social media accounts, only to delete them afterwards. With just my partner as my follower and supporter, I decided to post some random videos on TikTok, until one day, while procrastinating and scrolling videos on TikTok, I found these videos of supercars parked in a public parking space. It piqued my interest prompting me to create a TikTok account and Facebook page. That’s when Cebu Car Spotter was created.

Inspired by the car montages I’ve seen on social media, I decided to do car spotting with my brother who has knowledge about cars. After school, we get on our motorcycle, we set up our cellphone so we can take pictures of running cars that pass by around Gov. M. Cuenco, Banilad RD and Talamban. Dangerous but fun at the same time, we do this cycle everyday just to spot cars and upload them on our page.

The first supercar that I was able to encounter up close and took a lot of photos, was a MercedesBenz SLS AMG.

With our followers growing in numbers every day, my brother and I decided to make videos of the cars in public parking spaces similar to those we have seen on TikTok. Scared and doubtful at the same time, we decided to look for cars in random parking spaces so we can try making videos. We go to places and establishments where cars are being parked publicly to look for special cars. Seeing supercars parked in public places was exhilarating. We were always thrilled to spot cars and create content, not minding if we only had a few hours of sleep. Rain or shine, it didn’t matter, we still go out to look for cars.

Our followers skyrocketed when I was out car spotting under heavy rain. Soaking wet, I decided to do car spotting outside a subdivision in Cebu City. After waiting for a few hours, a G-Wagon came out of the subdivision. Took out my phone, took a video of the G-Wagon while the rain was pouring, focused on it until it was no longer visible on camera, then an Evo 5 showed up without a warning. For me, it was a beautiful moment, it was worth it. Soaking wet, I didn’t mind the rain since it resulted to a beautiful 2-in-1 car video, and that was my first viral video.

Our followers have been a very big help to us, and that’s why I asked them to submit the cars they spotted on the roads of Cebu. This is my way of communicating and interacting with my followers. Cebu Car Spotter wouldn’t be Cebu Car Spotter if not for the followers. Posting their photos is the only way to thank them and to keep them.

Now, we have met new friends and new people. People from different communities that share the same passion for cars and we will continue spotting cars to make our community bigger to showcase how wonderful the Cebu Car Scene is.

Thank you, Spotters!
