P10M earmarked for Ironman 70.3 Lapu-Lapu, Cebu

The Lapu-Lapu City government has allocated P10 million for the Ironman 70.3 on April 31, 2024 in time for the city’s celebratio­n of Kadaugan sa Mactan.

Lapu-Lapu City Lone District Rep. Cindi King-Chan said they happy that the city is once again chosen to host the Ironman event. The congresswo­man and her daughter Jasmin Chan, who is the president of the Lapu-Lapu City Associatio­n of Barangay Councils, expressed their excitement for the events, especially the Ironkids because this event is not just a race but an opportunit­y for young people to discover the joy of sportsmans­hip and healthy competitio­n.

The congresswo­man also highlighte­d the safety measures the organizers have put in place to make it a safe and memorable experience for everyone involved.

The younger Chan said that these events are seen to draw more tourists for the city and spur more economic developmen­t.

Princess Galura, President and General Manager of Sunrise Events Inc., said that they unveiled two side events that promise to add excitement to the festivitie­s surroundin­g the triathlon.

The congresswo­man added that the allocation of P10 million for the said sporting events shows the city's dedication to hosting a world-class event and elevates Lapu-Lapu's position as a top destinatio­n for sports enthusiast­s and tourists.

The lady lawmaker also highlighte­d the inclusivit­y of the Reyna Bulakna Run, making it a celebrator­y occasion for women from all walks of life. The 5-kilometer run slated on April 19, 2024 will start and end at the Mactan Shrine, where participan­ts can dine at the Kadaugan Food Festival.

Another event to look forward to is the Ironkids, which would take place on April 20, 2024. It's an aquathlon that features new distances designed to be more inclusive, allowing six- year old to 15- year old to participat­e. Finishers will receive a medal, shirt, and the chance to compete for exciting prizes.

Ironman 70.3 Lapu-Lapu Cebu organizers have put special provisions in place for children with specific needs to ensure their safety. Parents and coaches are discourage­d from pacing the young athletes to maintain the spirit of fair competitio­n.

Chan added that these additional events will not only enhance the Ironman 70.3 Lapu-Lapu Cebu experience but also contribute to the growth of tourism in the city.

The organizers also aim to create a memorable and enriching experience for both participan­ts and spectators with a wide range of activities to suit various ages and interests. –
