Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama, who is looking for reelection next year, welcomes those who would challenge him in the political arena but advises them not to resort to mudslinging.

Former Customs Commissioner Yogi Ruiz earlier announced his intention to run for city mayor in the 2025 midterm elections while embattled Metropolitan Cebu Water District chairman Joey Daluz is also contemplating on running for the same position.

The mayor did not comment on the two personalities, but said, anyone of them should not be taken for granted.

“Any opponent should never be taken for granted. But the most important thing, let them file first,” Rama said yesterday through his regular program over the city’s Sugboanon channel.

The mayor also said it is normal for those who have intentions to run for a position to be overwhelmed, but warned them to make sure they are clean as well.

“Naa ba guy mag mayor nga dili manginit sa iyang kaatbang? Normal na siya…Pero ako lang sang e warning ba nga, manaway gani mo, kanang dili mo panuway ha..Kay usahay..there is a statement, you go to court, with clean hands.. And you look at yourself in the mirror, kay basin naa kay tulo ka tudlo..sa kamot padung sad na nimo,” Rama said.

The mayor stressed that he does not have any problem with anyone who intends to run, especially against him, but said that those who are running should not destroy any other candidates.

“Wala lagi kaso ng manlansar..Wa gyud nay problema gyud..Pero ayaw ng magbuhat mog esturya nga gub-on ninyong isig katawo..di na mao..Kay ang karma…Your foolishment will just go back to you,” said Rama.

The mayor also stressed that regardless, he remains confident with himself as he has been molded by his parents to be well-mannered.

“Kabalo mo nako, gikan kos akong ginikanan, maayo man kong pagka hulma…Pangutan-a sad ng ilang ginikanan, maayo ba silang pagkahulma, kay manggawas na sa ilang gipangyawit sa ilang mga dila,” ended Rama. -
