While scrolling on my phone one evening, my attention was caught by this post on Facebook: “The biggest lesson I learned this year is not to force anything: Conversations, friendships, relationships.”

The message spoke to me because I’m a great believer of the view that in order for us to overcome life’s challenges, we have to learn to go with the flow to however life unfolds.

To resist is to build up unnecessary stress which, in turn, can cause anxiety and needless overthinking that can dampen our capacity for joy and dull our enthusiasm to live.

To learn how to go with the flow and embrace life’s curve balls can help us travel light. I believe that whatever happens, there’s always a reason and purpose.

From that post, I got to reflect on other big lessons in life.

“Before we are born, our destination and journey in life is already written in the stars,” is one that comes to mind. The universe has its own way of guiding us in our journey and, at times, these may not be to our liking.

It is in unwelcome and uncomfortable situations when we have to strengthen our faith and trust in God.

“When one gets older, illnesses in different dimensions may creep in into our body. Hence, one must invest in a healthy lifestyle and must exercise in life’s early stages of life,” is another lesson that I think is important. This was said by Dr. Willie Ong in one of his videos.

I’m reminded of what happened to a friend, who had to use a cane so she could walk due to ageing-related concerns. Her legs became weak, so a cane was necessary for her to move around. She felt sorry about her condition and angry about her predicament, and this did not make things easier for her.

“Life is brief and one must enjoy life. You cannot touch the water of a river twice. Once time is gone, it’s gone forever,” is another lesson.

“Gratitude is everything,” is another lesson that we should all embrace. The view isn’t about gaslighting the good and bad things that come in our lives, but to always remember that things can change in a blink of the eye, and that being gracious to life’s changes helps us maintain our center.

Royale Scuderi of lifehack.org jots down the following life lessons that’re worth taking note of:

* You can’t please everyone

You don’t need everyone to agree with you or even like you. Speak up, stick to your guns, assert yourself if you need to, demand respect, stay true to your values.

* Your health is your most valuable asset

Heart disease, bone density, stroke, many cancers – the list of many largely preventable diseases is long. So take care of your health now, or you’ll regret later.

* Set boundaries

One of the best lessons in life is that you need to learn is the setting of healthy boundaries, especially if you are around toxic people – regardless of whether they are family members, or co- workers. Setting healthy boundaries and sticking to them will pay off in the long run.
