Data from the Comelec-7 from February 12 to 16, 2024 shows a total of 26,684 individuals applied for registration to vote in the 2025 midterm elections. The figure also shows that male applicants are slightly higher--13,372— compared to females--13,312.

As expected, the first day of the resumption of the registration had the biggest turn out at 7,824 for the entire region. The number dropped to 5,730 on the following day, February 13. It further decreased to 4,187 in February 14 and 4,032 in February 15 with Cebu having the most number of applicants so far with 17,799.

Bohol, on the other hand, has a total of 3,277 registrants while Negros Oriental had 4,805 and Siquijor with 803.

Based on Comelec’s data, some are new voters while others want to transfer, and some wants to reactivate their registration records.

Earlier, Comelec-7 Regional Director Lionel Marco Castillano expressed his happiness over the good turnout considering that they also conducted voters’ registration for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections last year.

Castillano attributed the good turnout to Comelec’s effective information dissemination. The poll body anticipates that many individuals will still go to their field offices this week although the number is expected to go down in the weeks to come.

During the lean months, Comelec-7 will be conducting an offsite or satellite registration in mountain barangays, island barangays, and in malls. The Comelec is open for registration until September 30, 2024 in time for the midterm elections in May 2025.

Comelec offices are open during weekdays and Saturdays, except on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. --
