LMP-Cebu backs call to stop CBRT work
Another group of officials in the Province of Cebu has expressed support to the stand of the Cebu provincial government in recommending the stoppage of the civil works of the Cebu Bus Rapid Transit (CBRT) project fronting the Capitol.
The League of Municipalities in the Philippines (LMP) Cebu Chapter passed a resolution supporting the Capitol, stating that the CBRT project adds up to the traffic congestion in the area in Cebu City "which significantly affect the various transactions and daily routines of our people especially those coming from far-flung municipalities and cities of the Province of Cebu."
"We recognize the fact that the project is within the territorial jurisdiction of Cebu City, however we can never also deny the fact that the Cebu city is not just the image and representation of the whole island or the Province of Cebu in which the latter is more expensive in terms of services," reads part of the resolution signed by LMP - Cebu president and Daanbantayan Mayor Sun Shimura and other mayors in Cebu Province dated February 28, 2024.
The Cebu Provincial Board earlier carried at least two resolutions recommending the halt of the civil works of the CBRT in front of the Capitol, pointing out traffic and heritage concerns.
The board stressed that the design of the bus stations affects the facade of the Capitol building which is considered a historical landmark, noting that the contractor did not consult and seek authorization from the National Commission for the Culture and the Arts (NCCA).
