Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama wants occupants of the old Pasil public market to be relocated as possible to give way to the construction of a school building in the area.

“ASAP (as soon as possible) na siya as per advice ni Mayor Mike. E-transfer na namo sa Pasil fish port area para tukuran na’g elementary school sa Suba,” said Market Administrator Robert Barquilla.

The old Pasil market, which is about 2,000 square meters, is located behind the children’s park fronting the San Nicolas Church.

According to Barquilla, officials of barangay Suba and the neighboring barangays Sawang Calero and Pasil are hoping that the project would start this year since it has long been their dream to have a school in the area.

Barquilla said a budget has been allocated for the construction of the school building.

“Naa nay budget for school building…Hopefully, this year, mag-start ang school building og pag-transfer sa existing market kay on-going pa man ato development sa fish port area,” said Barquilla.

Meanwhile, Eugene Mercado, Pasil market’s acting manager, said they will transfer to the new fish port as soon as the construction work starts.

“Ang atong opisina kasamtangan nga naa man pud sa Phase II (the site for the new school building), nihimo na lang sad mi’g initiative nga maghinay-hinay na lang sad mi’g himo og opisina adto sa fish port,” Mercado said.

Mercado said that he and his staff would be happy to transfer to the new fish port since their current office is already very dilapidated.

“Angay ug matarong gyud nga mobalhin mi og laing office… So amo lang gyud e –work out ang katong naa sa fish port,” Mercado said. –
