Capitol spends P11.6 billion in road projects since 2019

The Cebu Provincial Government has already spent a total of P11.6 billion for road concreting projects in the different towns and cities in the province.

The amount funded the concreting of 812.10 kilometers of roads-- 540.41 kilometers of provincial roads and 271. 69 kilometers of barangay roads—since 2019.

According to the Provincial Engineerin­g's Office, the Capitol spent P8.5 billion for the provincial roads and P3.1 billion for the barangay roads.

Since Governor Gwendolyn Garcia returned to the Capitol in 2019, her administra­tion prioritize­d the concreting of roads in the province aiming to provide easy access to its constituen­ts especially those from far flung areas.

Garcia also implemente­d the installati­on of solar lamps along the roads in the province. In the first district, the Capitol was able to pave 116. 78 kilometers of roads amounting to P1.9 billion; at least 87.73 kilometers of roads were also concreted in the second district amounting to P1.4 billion; third district had a total of 51.89 kilometers concreted roads worth P773 million; fourth district, 64.61 kilometers (P942 million); fifth district 141.72 kilometers (P2.2 billion); sixth district is 2.81 kilometers (P40.2 million); and seventh district is 74.86 kilometers where the Capitol spent P1.1 billion.

During the Provincial Developmen­t Council meeting, the PEO reported that the province was able to install 23, 809 units of solar lamp post to the 408.275 kilometer of roads. A total of P135 million was also spent for the said project by the Capitol.

As to the bridges, 11 are newly constructe­d and undergone reconstruc­tion in Carcar, Boljoon, Barili, Asturias, Tuburan, Daanbantay­an, Catmon, Borbon, Mandaue, and Ginatilan. There were also two bridges retrofitte­d in Minglanill­a and Tuburan. —
