Beermen take it ladder by ladder in potential season sweep

A sweep of the PBA Season 48 isn’t on the agenda of San Miguel.

Not yet anyway. Despite a 109-97 win over Rain or Shine to kick off its Philippine Cup title retention bid on a high note, the Beermen aren’t about to get carried away about going for a back-to-back championship following their successful title conquest during the Commissioner’s Cup.

While coach Jorge Gallent welcomed the great start to open its campaign, he said it’s a case of taking it one game at a time for the defending All-Filipino Cup champion at this point.

“I always tell we just do it ladder by ladder. We’re not thinking above that ladder,” he said.

“This elimination is just the start of our ladder so we’ll just finished this and then we moved on to the other step. As of now, we’re just thinking game by game in this eliminations.”

The San Miguel coach was more than happy seeing seventime MVP June Mar Fajardo being given the clearance by doctors to play in San Miguel’s first game of the conference after nursing a calf injury during the course of the Commissioner’s Cup finals.

Fajardo submitted doubledouble numbers of 15 points and 10 rebounds while coming off the bench.

Gallent commended Fajardo for playing during the finals despite hounded by the injury.

But at the same time, he bared of limiting Fajardo’s playing minutes especially with back up Mo Tautuaa playing well for the team as of late.

“It really depends on Mo, because Mo is really playing well now so he will get his minutes. If Mo plays well, then he will stay on the court. So it really depends on the other substitutes of June Mar,” said Gallent.

Besides as the San Miguel coach said, the Beermen are taking things ladder by ladder.
