Donald Ting, Mark Bukiron, Rey Kenneth Ng wax hot as teams stay unbeaten in CECABA cage tourney
Donald Anthony Ting and Mark Eugene Bukiron delivered explosive performances, while Rey Kenneth Ng caught part of the spotlight as their respective teams remained unbeaten in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association’s 17th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup over the weekend at CEC’s Chiang Kai-shek Gym.
In what is by far the most thrilling duel of the season, Ting erupted for 48 points as the Tiger Tank Batch 1995 withstood the scintillating 50-point show of his brother Alan Ting to frustrate Bayfront Hotel Batch 1993/96 in overtime, 104-97.
Joseph James Yu chipped in 20 markers while Dean Dy Teves added 14 points as Batch 1995 stayed on top of the table in Division B with a perfect 4-0 record.
Cedric Chua sizzled with 27 points but to no avail as Batch 1996/93 suffered its second loss in three starts.
On the other hand, Bukiron fired a tournament high 52 points as the Fuente Oro Business Suites Batch 1994/99 trounced Chanieka Hardware Batch 2000, 77-54, to keep the solo second spot with an immaculate 3-0 slate.
Bukiron got huge support from Albert Uy with 21 points.
Reniel Peña was the lone double-digit scorer with 22 points for Batch 2000, which crashed to its third consecutive defeat.
In other Division B matches, Paul Martin Gabatan sizzled with 20 points as Cebu Lucky Machinery Batch 2001 downed Alin Customs Brokerage Batch 1997, 59-51, while Daniel Hayag dropped 22 points to power Dimsum Frito Batch 2003/2004 to a 74-70 triumph over RBER Industrial and Trading Batch 2005.
Eric Cabana scored 14 and Ong Aylwin Ong finished with 1 points to help Batch 2001 improve to 2-1 while sinking Batch 1997 to 1-2. Aubrey Ibones paced Batch 1997 with 12 points.
Kevin Mamac and Aljhune Areja connived for 33 points while Rodney Co tossed in 11 points as Batch 2003/2004 evened its card at 2-2.
Kenneth Lester Ang netted 27 points while Philip Lua pumped in 20 points but their efforts went down the drain as Batch 2005 languished at the cellar with a pitiful 0-3 mark.
In Division A, Ng produced one of his finest games with 21 points to vault KNM & Toxic Wheels Batch 1988 to a 61-49 drubbing of Foodies Junction Batch 1970s/82/86/87.
Ernest Tanting donated 10 points while Gregorio Aguilar, Erwin Yu, and Robert Lim combined for 22 points as Batch 1988 tightened its grip of the solo lead with an unblemished 3-0 card.
Robert Fabian, John Quilacio, and George Daytia conspired for 36 points but to no avail as Batch ‘70s/82/86/87 fell for the second time in a row.
In other result, Joseph Baluyos Jr. nailed back-toback wins in Division C via a 55-54 cliffhanger over HELM Construction & Supplies Batch 2014.
Mark Vincent Berdera came up with 18 points while Shann Christopher Tan dished out 14 markers for Batch 2014, which came tumbling down after a good start. –
