Modern Windows, Boysen Paints, Buildrite off to flying starts
The Modern Windows, Boysen Paints, and Buildrite kicked off their respective campaigns on a high note in the Cebu Architects Basketball Club’s 6th Corporate Cup over the weekend at the Benedicto College-Cebu City gymnasium.
Darren Morandante fired 24 points on top of five rebounds and five assists as Modern Windows shrugged off a lukewarm start on the way to pummel Landlite, 75-59.
Kim-Kim Rebosura also shined brightly for Modern Windows with an all-around show of 16 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists, and six steals.
Justin Aspacio scored 14 while Joseph Cabigas punched a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds for Modern Windows, which trailed by five, 27-32, in the second canto.
But Modern Windows whipped up a fierce counterattack in the middle quarters to establish a huge 66-50 advantage in the final six-minute mark.
Anthony Bajenting was the lone double-digit scorer for Landlite with 17 points and eight rebounds.
In other games, Boysen Paints and Buildrite both leaned on a strong endgame finish to dispatch separate foes.
Chester Hinagdanan sizzled with 24 points, 11 boards and three dimes to power Boysen Paints to an 82-77 drubbing of Lightstrong ACC Blocks, while Ferdinand Tiro scattered 24 points laced with 14 caroms to rally Buildrite past Davies Paints, 80-77.
Lightstrong took a 72-69 edge but Boysen Paints rattled 13 points while holding off Lighstrong to a measly five points in the last six minutes to snatch a resounding five-point victory.
Jess Basallo chipped in 12 markers while Michael Judilla and Kurt Dumandan added 10 points apiece for Boysen Paints.
Mark Paradero tallied 13 points, Duane Anino, Jay Devenadera, and Fracis Dumadag posted 11 points each, while Roldan Bonjoc had 10 points in a losing effort for Lightstrong.
Likewise, Buildrite trailed by a matchstick, 67-68, halfway through the fourth frame but closed the match with a 13-9 run to grind out a three-point escape.
Tiro drew huge support from Elmo Ubanan with 12 points, eight rebounds, and five assists. Al Marquita and Wilfredo Lastimosa also made their presence felt for Buildrite with identical 10 points.
John Terrece Buhawe finished with 22 points and 11 rebounds but his efforts went in vain for Davies Paints. –
