Capitol not behind ongoing Balamban mountain dev’t

Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia has clarified that it is not the Capitol behind the ongoing construction works at the top of a mountain area in Barangay Cambuhawe, Balamban Cebu.

This after drone shots of the development went viral on social media pages gaining different reactions from netizens pointing to environmental concerns.

However, Garcia disclosed that it is one of the areas they are considering for the plan to transfer the Capitol building to a new site outside of Cebu City.

According to the governor, it is the Department of Public Works and

Highways (DPWH) that is widening the development site for road access.

“Kanang gitrabaho ron, dili na amo, sa DPWH man na, kinahanglan man na og road access pero dili na pondo sa Province of Cebu,” Garcia said.

“That is coming from the National Government tabang pagpa-transfer kay they also understand kay kung magpadayon ta dinhi sa Cebu City grabe na kaayo ang congestion,” added Garcia.

The Capitol is pushing for the transfer of the provincial seat of government to Balamban, southwestern Cebu, due to several reasons, including the city’s worsening traffic.

Even in other countries, Garcia stressed that the Capitol is not located in the capital city.

The Province is choosing the town of Balamban for the new location of the Capitol building since it is accessible to all local government units from the south and northern part of Cebu.

Garcia admitted that the area shown in photos that has gone viral is one of the sites they are looking into for the rise of the new government center, but as of now the Capitol has not shelled out any funds for the development.

“Ayaw na isagol nga naay bukid diha nga gitrabaho kay as of now dili pa na Province of Cebu. In fact, we are still acquiring the lots, ang mga yuta although duna na tay commitment nga around that area ila na ibaligya but wala pa na nato, wala pa ta nagfinalize sa negotiation busa wala pa ta kabayad bisag unsa kadako,” said Garcia.

“But already nag-una na ang DPWH to provide access aron dunay maagi-an puhon kay anha pa ba ta mag himo og dalan kun humana ang Capitol, unsaon man na pagtrabaho sa building,” she added. -
