Sulu now has ‘Heritage Hub’
established “Heritage Hub” at the Notre Dame College of Jolo and noted the rich and cultural history of the province and its unique people.
The Heritage Hub is a joint project between the Provincial Government and the Notre Dame College of Jolo which aims to restore awareness and pride on one's heritage which is an essential part of preserving cultural diversity and promoting a sense of identity among individuals.
Tan said: “Our heritage holds within it the collective memory, traditions, and values of our ancestors, and serves as a crucial reminder of the struggles and triumphs that have shaped our history.”
He said the restoration of pride in one’s heritage fosters a sense of belonging and community, which in turn, strengthens social cohesion. It provides a common thread that connects individuals with shared experiences and values, enabling them to form a sense of identity and unity.
“Awareness and pride in one's heritage instills a sense of respect and appreciation for other cultures, promotes understanding, and encourages harmony and tolerance in society. It is through the celebration and preservation of our heritage that we can learn from the experiences and accomplishments of our forefathers and pass on their legacy to future generations,” Tan explained.
“As we move towards an increasingly interconnected world, it is imperative that we do not lose sight of our roots, but instead, strive to restore awareness and pride in our heritage. This will not only help preserve cultural diversity but also enable us to appreciate and value the richness of our common heritage. In doing so, we can create a society that is more harmonious, accepting, and inclusive,” he added.
Tan also met with Fr. Eduardo Santoyo, the college president, and led the governor on a guided tour of the Heritage Hub together with faculty members. Santoyo and the faculty members also hailed Tan for his strong advocacy in preserving the history of Sulu. (Mindanao Examiner)
